Original Article SAP Leonardo: l’intelligent enterprise è gia’ a portata di mano
The association that gathers current and potential SAP users recently dedicated a day to the vendor’s platform that enables the introduction of new IT models such as artificial intelligence, big data, blockchain and others. Interview with Roberto Carnevale, organiser of the event.
The meeting recently promoted by GUPS (Gruppo Utenti e Prospect SAP) Italia at the national headquarters of Solvay, with the collaboration of Techedge (partner of the software vendor), allowed around sixty CIOs from various companies, around thirty management engineering students from the Liuc University of Castellanza (Varese), and various professionals, to deepen their knowledge and debate on the SAP Leonardo platform.
‘The platform,’ Roberto Carnevale, head of worldwide IT developments at Solvay and member of the board of GUPS Italia (where he is in charge of IT innovation issues), pointed out to ZeroUno, ’encompasses and enables all those innovations, including artificial intelligence (AI), big data, deep learning and blockchain, that make it possible to create what SAP calls the Intelligent Enterprise. Solvay gladly accepted to host this event promoted by GUPS Italia, among others that the association has organised this year on other topics, because it is in tune with the spirit of innovation that the company has in its DNA and with its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) philosophy, which involves the organisation of valuable activities on the territory’.
Before going into the merits of the day’s theme, Carnevale would like to recall some characteristics of Solvay: ‘Our company,’ he says, ‘has as its mission to promote sustainable chemistry, with an environmental footprint that is increasingly tending towards zero. We are present in 61 countries around the world, with 26,800 employees spread across 135 industrial sites and 21 research centres. The company ended 2017 with a turnover of around EUR 10 billion.’
Belgian Solvay was one of the first large industrial companies to become an SAP user and continues to be an area where new SAP technologies are studied and often tested and implemented: ‘At the meeting,’ Carnevale explains, ‘some of our IT managers present were also impressed by some interesting SAP Leonardo use cases illustrated by Techedge, and decided to create Pocs (Proof of Concepts) in some areas.
